IQ, EQ and...?

If you've been reading my blog you probably guessed: SQ.

IQ = Intelligence Quotient

EQ= Emotional Intelligence Quotient

SQ= Spirit-related Intelligence Quotient

NOTE: Remember "spirit"  in this context refers to "that which makes alive."

What is SQ?

SQ has to do with our ability to identify and be aware of our own spirit and that of others.

It's the ability to assess the condition of our own spirit and that of others.

It's also the ability to regulate our own spirit and that of others.

Is there a test?

No, the test to measure SQ hasn't been invented yet. Let's not let that stop us from assessing and developing our SQ.

What is Your SQ?

Since Spirit-related Intelligence begins with our own spirit, let's begin there.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being total awareness, rate your ability to identify and be aware of your own spirit.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being mastery, rate your ability to assess the condition of your own spirit.

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 again being mastery, rate your ability to regulate your own spirit.

Total your score.

How did you do?

Which of the three abilities was easiest for you? Which was the hardest?

What might you do to raise your score?

  1. This is a stimulating addition to those scales by which we measure our "success." Honestly, I had a difficult time giving myself a number for the three scales you propose. In this present moment, I'd give myself a 5 on the 1st, a 6 on the second, and a 4 on the third. It seems easiest for me to assess the condition of my spirit. Somehow that seems the most clinical or measurable of the three. Hardest of course is regulating my spirit. This requires that first I can recognize and assessit, and then also know what might make my spirit, what, healthier? Stronger?

    Raising each of those scores takes understanding just what each means, and knowing how I can affect it.

    As an aside, I wonder how easy or hard it is to shift the other two measures. Is spirit the only place where I might like to "raise" my score?

    Thought-provoking as always.

    1. Sara, my post did not come from a place of measuring our "success." It has to do with becomimg more mindful of our own spirit.

      I can see from your reply that you were engaged in the process. I did find it interesting that you felt that it was easier to assess the condition of your spirit than to identify and be aware of it.

      Yes, regulating our spirit assumes that we are able to be aware of our spirit, assess its condition, and change its condition if we so choose.

    2. Thanks for your clarification. I guess I was confused by the sequencing of SQ with IQ and EQ. So then, what the questions you posed are designed to do is help me in becoming more mindful of my own spirit?

      Yes, I did find the questions made me consider what I know about my spirit. Perhaps the assessment, identification and awareness are all wrapped together, not separate and distinct. I don't know. This is not easy sometimes.

      For me, your writing offers a new way of looking at spirit--one that has a richness to it, though it is not always easy to grasp. There is more I'd like to talk with you about. Let me see if I can frame my thoughts.

    3. Is your expectation that plowing this new ground should be easy?

    1. Does it not work to check the "Notify me" box?

    2. What seems to happen is that I type the comment, and click on the "Publish" button to post it using my Google+ account. There is no "Notify me" box to check. That only appears after I log in, by which time my post is now published. Perhaps if I try logging in first, the box will appear. Thanks.

    3. I wish I could be of more help with this! Since I'm the administrator of the blog, my view of the site and how it functions differs from yours. I hope that logging in first will solve the problem.

  3. I'm glad that you find a richness in the perspective that I'm developing. This is definitely a work in progress and challenging. I appreciate your comments and questions. They help me even though I often do not yet have answers to your questions. I'm sure that others have the same questions you do. I apologize for not always having the answers to clear up confusion.

  4. Indeed, I learn from each of your posts. I appreciate what you write about it's being a work in progress. What you write challenges my thinking and generates questions. Perhaps in a sense they are rhetorical. I value the exchange of ideas between us, and appreciate your replies.
