This is Part One of a multi-part series that presents my thumotic perspective on delayed development to adulthood.

Introduction

A thumotic perspective is a holistic perspective that focuses primarily on the role of your spirit, rather than body, mind, and society, in what is going on in your life. The word “thumotic” comes from the Ancient Greek word for spirit, thumos.

Your spirit is what makes you alive rather than not. You either have spirit and are alive or you don’t, and you are dead. Your instincts, emotions, moods, heart-knowledge, and personality characteristics are aspects of your spirit. Your spirit also drives you to keep living and developing from childhood, through adolescence, to adulthood, and old age. When you expire, spirit-out, you die. You can die at any moment in the course of your development.

Your Spirit’s Role in Your Development to Adulthood

From your conception in your mother’s womb, your spirit inherently drives your development to adulthood. You’re an adult when your body and mind are fully developed and you are able to sustain your own life.

Your development to adulthood is unique because you are unique and the course of your life is unique.

In the course of your development to becoming a self-sustaining adult, you make your way through many difficult challenges: congenital anomalies, illnesses, injuries, physical and emotional neglect, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, hunger, poverty, violence, ineffective discipline, limited opportunities, and inadequate training and education. Some challenges are so difficult that they threaten your development to adulthood.

Why I'm a Spiritual Liminalist, Part 5

Rather than adhere to a religion,

I am areligious. Religion is irrelevant

to me, except as a significant aspect of

the culture that formed me and continues

to be a reality with which I interact.

“-ity” and “-ism” free, I am polytheistic.

Henotheistic. Vanatru. I’m wed to Freyja

and loyal to Freyr and believe many

other goddesses and gods exist too.

Some I honor. Others I despise,

especially those who claim to be

almighty and the only real one.

I’m a seer and soothsayer.

I see Western culture from my

spiritual liminalist perspective.

What I speak is true to what I see.

I address Westerners, especially

Americans in the United States.

Others are free to listen too.

I judge individuals, groups, and

cultures by their wake. What I see

in the wake of Western culture

corrupted by Christianity is domination,

diminution, division, distress, damage,

destruction, and disease.

I see the denial of spirit.

I see doom and death.

The dawn of a new day I see too.

Why I'm a Spiritual Liminalist, Part 4

I am wondered by earthy life. We are alive

rather than not. I am alive. You are

alive. We are alive together.

I value life- all life.

We are born free. It’s our natural state.

I champion freedom and liberality

for all living things.

I champion both individual freedom and social responsibility.

We are alive as individuals. Everyone is unique. Every life is unique and every destiny. All are of inestimable worth.

We are not alone. We’re alive together.

We are individuals in relationships with each other.

We are responsible for ourselves and to each other.

I’m in relationships with many:

family, friends, and co-workers-

None more important than Lisa,

the love of my life.

Among my many relationships are

goddesses and gods.

All this and more puts me in

the borderland between Western

culture corrupted by Christianity

and all other cultures.

There I dwell as a spiritual liminalist.
